Are blood tests suitable for children?

We are not able to offer blood tests for those under the age of 18 unless it is part of a routine GP appointment and the clinician believes it suitable.

What does the Complete STI Screen involve?

Our Complete STI Screen includes a blood and urine test for 12 STIs. It is a private and confidential procedure conducted by our healthcare professionals.

Do I need to have symptoms to take the test?

No, the Screen is suitable for individuals with and without symptoms. Regular testing is important for everyone to ensure early detection and prevent the spread of STIs. If you have symptoms and suspect a STI, book with a Wells doctor right away as they may prescribe treatment without waiting for test results.

What happens if I test positive for HIV?

If you test positive for HIV, confirmatory testing is done, followed by medical evaluation, treatment and care with antiretroviral therapy, support and counselling, and regular health monitoring. HIV is manageable with appropriate care.

What if my test results come back positive?

If your test results indicate the presence of an STI, our team will provide guidance and discuss your next steps. We offer tailored treatment options and support to help you manage the infection effectively.

How many days after possible infection should I get tested for an STI?

The recommended timeframe for the Complete STI screen after potential infection would be 4 weeks for accurate results. If you have symptoms and an STI is suspected, please book a consultation with your Wells doctor as soon as possible as they may start treatment without waiting for the results of tests. All types of tests for hepatitis B and C and HIV should be repeated after 3 months to ensure no infections are missed.

What STIs are included in the comprehensive screen?

Our comprehensive screen covers nine STIs which are as follows:

  • Chancroid: A sexually transmitted infection (STI) caused by the bacterium Haemophilus ducreyi, resulting in painful genital ulcers and swelling of the lymph nodes in the groin.
  • Chlamydia: Common STI caused by the bacterium Chlamydia trachomatis. It can affect the genitals, rectum, and throat, often with no symptoms.
  • Gonorrhoea: a sexually transmitted infection caused by the bacterium Neisseria gonorrhoeae, leading to genital, rectal, and throat infections.
