There are a number of conditions characterised by pain, stiffness and swelling of the joints which are suitable for treatment with a steroid or cortisone injection. These conditions are caused most commonly from overuse of the joint for example Osteoarthritis and tendonitis.

The pain is sometimes unresponsive to oral pain relief and will benefit from a cortisone injection which provides a profound anti-inflammatory effect within the joint and hence reduces or eliminates pain, stiffness and swelling.
